Artworks - Virginia Ray
Virginia Ray has an in MA Fine Art. Her family have lived and worked for generations in the landscape of Nidderdale, North Yorkshire and it is this landscape that is the focus of her work. In this ‘Area of Outstanding Beauty’ Virginia sees not only rolling hills and vegetation, but also a layering of time. To her, this landscape has memory and it is the fluidity and cycle of life on the land that is her interest. In particular, she is interested in the lead mines, the quarries and the building of the reservoirs in the Dale. Incorporating cement, galena and old photographs in her work, Virginia seeks to put industry back into the landscape and highlight the human histories of this landscape.
